Professor Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya was born in Gazipur, Bangladesh on July 01, 1969. He completed his BSS (Hons) and MSS degree in Economics from the Islamic University, Kushtia in 1993 and 1995 respectively. He earned his Ph.D degree in 2005 from the Department of Economics, University of Mumbai, Mumbai-India under the scholarship of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, executed by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Professor Bhuiya is now serving the Department of Economics of Islamic University, Kushtia-Bangladesh as a Professor & Chairman. As a teacher he began his career as a Lecturer in Economics at the Department of Economics, Islamic University in 1996. Earlier Professor Bhuiya served the University as a Provost of Bangabhandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall. He also performed his duties as a Press administrator of the printing press of Islamic University.
Before starting teaching job, as a Senior Officer he served Bangladesh Shilpa-Rin Shonghtha (BSRS), which is now known as Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd (BDDL). For a few days he also served Al-Arafa Islami Bank Ltd, Head Office, Motijeel-Dhaka as a Provisionary Officer.

Fields of Research: “Impact of Poverty Alleviation Programmes on Women’s Economic Status: A Case Study of Some Selected Areas of Bangladesh”.
Research & Publications: Professor Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya has written a number of research articles on numerous topics. He participated in many national and international seminars and workshops dealing with development issues. Professor Bhuiya is involved with many socio-cultural organizations of diverse nature.
Along with Chairmanship Professor Bhuiya is now performing his duties as SPM of the Sub Project ‘Digitization of Teaching and Learning in Economics at Undergraduate and Master’s Levels’ of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
- i) Participated in the training programme at BIBM for 6 weeks as an officer of BSRS during the period of July 22 to August 27, 1996.
- ii) Participated in the training programme on ‘Orientation to Social Science Research” for two days at Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Chembur, Mumbai, India.
iii) Participated in the training programme on ‘Research Methodology & Data Analysis’ for six days at Indra Ghandi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Goregeon, Mumbai, India.
Member – Bangladesh Economics Association (BEA).
The Chairman shall be appointed by the the Vice Chancellor of this University for a period of three years on such terms and conditions as the Vice-Chancellor may determine. At any time when the Chairman is absent or is unable to perform the functions of his office due to illness or some other cause, the Chancellor shall make such arrangements for the performance of the functions of the Chairman as he may deem fit.
- The Chairman shall have the responsibility to plan and co-ordinate the work of the Department.
- The Chairman shall be responsible to the Faculty for the organization and teaching in his Department subject to such directions as may be given from time to time by the Vice-Chancellor.
- The Chairman shall be responsible for the general supervision of Department.
